This main floor renovation north of Toronto started with one important goal: create a home where everyone could gather.
This family of four loved to host, but their existing layout made it difficult to comfortably bring both sides of the family together for birthdays, holidays, and celebrations. Hosting often meant splitting people between rooms or simply not having everyone over at once.
By removing the walls between the kitchen, dining, and living areas, we created one open, connected space designed around how this family wanted to live.
A generous kitchen island became a natural gathering place, with seating for their two young girls and plenty of room for family and friends to pull up a chair. The new layout opened sight lines and brought natural light deeper into the home, while allowing the dining table to extend for larger celebrations.
Just as importantly, the changes made everyday family life easier. More efficient kitchen storage and counter space gave everything a place, while an underused nook beneath the stairs became practical entryway storage for coats, bags, and shoes.
The result is a home that feels brighter, more functional, and more connected, whether it's filled with family and friends or simply the four of them spending an ordinary evening together.
